Pacing is hard. Wouldn’t it be great to forget about perfect pacing your next race and just follow a pace group? You’ll be led by a more experienced runner leading you to your dream finish time.
Plus you’ll have a whole group of people trying for the exact same thing. You can relax, keep your eyes off your watch, and ride the pace group wave all the way to a new personal record.
Or it could be a complete disaster and ruin your race…
Welcome to the Planted Runner. I’m Coach Claire Bartholic and my mission is to help you improve your running, your mindset, and your life with science-backed training and plant-based nutrition.
Today I’m going to explore the pros and cons of pace groups.
You’ll learn:
- how to determine if a pace group is right for you
- what questions to ask the group leader, and
- when not to follow a pace group
If you’ve got a race coming up soon and you figured you’d just rely on a pace group to help get you across the line, you’re going to want to listen to this one first.
And at the end of today’s show, right after the Mental Strength Minute, I’ll announce this month’s winner of our Apple Podcast review contest. Anyone can win just by leaving a 5 star review of the show. I’ll choose one random winner to win a free signed copy of my book every month this year.

I started listening to Claire when she was on her previous podcast. I was so excited when she was developing and started her own podcast. As a nurse, dietitian, mom and mostly plant based runner who started later in life, Claire’s journey resonated with me. But even more importantly, I find Claire to be an incredible resource and enjoyable to listen to. I have learned so much and I love her style as well as the mental minute at the end of each Podcast. As a clinician, I find her evidence-based approach critical to healthy success. I subscribe to many podcast and the planted runner with Claire as it’s host is by far my favorite!! I also heard her being interviewed on other podcasts and she’s equally fantastic and I have to say soy curls are a game changer!!! Thank you Claire !

Excellent bite-sized running advice.
I discovered this podcast through my long time favorite running podcast Another Mother Runner. Love that these episodes are short and I gain bite- sized knowledge to incorporate in my runs/workouts with each listen.
